The ISA was founded founded in 1945 and is a leading, global, nonprofit organization with a membership of over 30,000 in 110 countries. The ISA develops standards, certifies industry professionals, provides educational training, publishes books and technical articles, and hosts the largest conference and exhibition for automation professionals in the Western Hemisphere.

The ISA Lafayette Section was chartered in 1981. Our membership comes primarily from the upstream oil and gas industry. Our instrumentation and controls professionals are known worldwide as the pioneers and experts in the application of technology associated with processes in the oil patch. The Acadiana area is considered the "Center of Excellence" for experienced instrumentation and control system designers, engineers, programmers, project managers and technicians. These individuals, along with service providers and vendors, provide the bulk of our membership.

Each year the Lafayette Section has grown stronger and currently we have a base membership of over 200. Our monthly meetings offer a variety of technical presentations as well as an opportunity to network with industry professionals. Each year our section sponsors a free local training seminar and Expo designed to keep pace with the ever changing technology inherent in our industry. We work closely with the University of Louisiana Lafayette offering two yearly scholarships and supporting the Industrial Technology and Electrical Engineering departments at the university.
